30s Beverley Dual Snare drum finished

Thanks for the compliments.Johnl - surprisingly little cost involved. The replacement lugs (got 2 of them) were around $15 each + postage from England. The gentleman that got them made is restoring a wood version of the same drum and had the mold made and had enough lugs cast to send me a couple. The chroming of all the lugs cost $20 as they were slipped in with a batch of other parts. The rest was just time and elbow grease and patience. The drum cost me $30 in the beginning. All up about $100BTW, the shell wasn't rechromed. Aluminium foil and water got it looking that good. And metal polish and wax of course.

Wow well worth the $100 you spent beautiful drum. The before and after pics are very impressive.

@Magnus and Buckey - Unfortunately it doesn't sound as good as it looks. The top set of wires are touching the batter head even in the off position so i need to investigate what's going on there. I tried modern heads (Ambassadors) but i didn't want to tension them up too much as the lugs are prone to breakage. I have one spare but getting more will be expensive. So I put the original calf heads back on and it sounds low and boxy with no resonance. I'm sure it could be made to sound great but because i have so many great sounding snares this one will be a display piece for now.

Andrew, that's a stellar restoration job. It doesn't even look like the same drum. You should be very proud. I have a Beverley snare as well, but it's a Cosmic 21 from the early '60s after Premier bought them out. Fortunately that one sounds great. I have some English dual snares from the '30s also, a Premier Dominion Ace, an Ajax solid Mahogany, and a Carlton King. With new heads they can be made to sound great. Hope you can get yours to that point eventually.

I have the Premier version of the Beverley 21 called the Premier 35. Great drum!
