Thanks a ton for the good words guys! I'll just gently point out I'm Canadian, but do possess the determination to bend any object toward my will. :)

Here's the twist in this hoop. I'm ready to glue and clamp and will attempt to match the ends on the fly while clamping...

Glued and clamped. Wish I had more clamps, and better ones too...

Now I'll leave that setup close to the heater overnight. I'm going to go install the batter head hoop, take a last couple pics for today and see you all tomorrow...

Here's the cut-down batter on the drum. I could *not* be happier, even with real ones. The old Leedy's were a little shallower/narrower than more recent Ludwig maple hoops. I like that. Plus they have a story and all that credible relic mojo.

The close-ups [3&4] show a minor deviation from round at one join, can definitely live with that. I even like the two-tone effect resulting from the "patch". And I will now reveal my initial ridiculous mistake which necessitated the patch - I cut the laps on both ends....on the inside of the hoop! Don't do this! It doesn't work at all! Lol...

I sanded the paint off the first hoop before re-sizing because I wanted to see what was under there - for the second one, I realized sanding can be left until the glue has dried, since it will be required at that stage anyway. The only thing left is to see how they hold up over time. If there is an issue, I will re-glue and maybe add a metal strip with some rivets.

The final upside of this is I now have a 22" Leedy BD hoop with silver sparkle inlay to sell. I'll keep the MIJ hoop that was on there for emergency backup.

That really looks great. I like the look of the patch piece as well. It adds character.

Excellent work!

Speaking as someone who really loves restoring old drum kits, this has been a terrific thread to follow. Nice job, man.

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks dudes! It's been big-time rewarding to discover that this can work with minimal tools etc.

The join I clamped last night turned out real well, looks nice, but unfortunately the hoop is a tick over-size. Not sure how it's even possible it happened, but the hoop needs too much force to fit back into the cymbal case [form]. Also slightly out of round. I think I actually clamped it too tight to the cymbal case wall, causing some deformation.

It's not too too bad, I could just sand, oil and use, but the other one came out so snug-fitting that I'm spoiled, and want the reso hoop to fit snug and round too. So, I'm going to re-cut it today, re-glue, and go easier on the clamping. Wish me luck and I'll post pics of the hopefully perfect results later today or tomorrow...
