I have played a few different 24's over my career and liked them all! The very best ever was one of the first Ludwig 6 plys, hands down the best bass drum sound ever. That drum was an inspiration!!!!

I just got a 14x24" bass drum and the sound is incredible. I'd never go back to 22...!

True, no right or wrong here. I'd love a 24x14 kit to add...I'd probably still end up using 22s mainly, but at times the extra beef would be fun....also, tuning and heads have much to do with it, and of course the type of drum...a Ludwig 3 ply is probably going to be sweet on a 24. I was reading somewhere that one of Bonham's early kits was actually a 24 and not 26....

Yes,JB played a BDP 24,14,16,18,early 70's.....or was it late 60's?

Does 26" count? I have one that sounds killer.

My favourite kit is a '49 WFL Club Date with a 14x24" bass drum. Thunderous but direct, and as long as you have a station wagon or van, no more difficult to gig with than a 22". In fact I have three 24's, all of which sound great. All three have calf front heads with felt strips as well, which give them a round, deep tone.

Of course, I own kits with 18, 20, and 22" kicks as well and love them all. Different drums for different circumstances as well as tonal needs. I'd never gig that Club Date in a small venue or for low volume music.
