24-inch ride Zildjian: ???

Loading...

mlayton, you're awesome. Thanks for the link. I noticed that the 13 inch cymbal I have has that signature/writing under the bell so it's definitely a first stamp. But again, I have no idea of what I should ask for if I sell. I'm sure drummers would cringe that I'm getting rid of these but I'm not a drummer so they would just collect dust.

Are the smaller ones both 13"? If so they might be a pair of hi hats. When you do set prices and decide to sell please post them here. Good chance you'll get some nice offers. Very nice cymbals for sure!

That earliest one ("first" stamp until BillHartrick/Drumaholic publishes his preferred name) is another example of the die used to make the stamp being struck in two parts. The upper (Ottoman) portion of that one is much more pressed in than the bottom (English) portion in yours. Pressed into the degree that you can see sloping in edges around the impression. I've got one on my web page where one portion is upside down (a "second" stamp until we get the word on the proper naming). Yours is a more subtle example of the same thing: two separate dies struck separately.

Your Trans Stamp looks like a Hartrick Type III to me. Used around 1950-1952, but this isn't my dating. Credit for dates (and the whole timeline) goes entirely to Bill Hartrick.

How about these other two?? Any thoughts/comments?

1 is a thin 12.25 inch "Zilco" and the other is a 13 inch "Zilco

Hi, I believe those zilco's are the earlier ones made in the US. Possibly 40's.

Nice looking cymbals.

From mlayton

These two pre date your others. One is commonly referred to as a trans stamp and the other is often referred to as a first stamp. Here is some info from forum member Zenstat that may be helpful..http://black.net.nz/avedis/avedis-gallery.htmlMike

Just to clarify for the OP The first one is the older one, probably late '30s. The second one is the trans stamp.

Just to clarify the clarification. The older one is this one:

The Trans stamp is this one:

And yes the Zilcos are the 1930s ones, although I don't know how long they were produced. Zilco = Zildjian Company and was used as a name for cymbals produced for other drum companies like Premier. Decades later the name Zilco was put on cymbals but the die stamp said Zilco by Azco (Azco = A. Zildjian Company) produced in Canada 1968-70 and 1976-79. ref: Pinksterboer, The Cymbal Book, p150. That Canadian plant later became Sabian.

Growing up in the uk, a lot of cymbals I remember seeing the zilco stamp quite often, and Ajax, is Ajax part of zildjian, oh just remembered Zyn as well.

Zyn cymbals (and Krut) were manufactured by Premier, 1950 to 1984. Hence the UK association.

Ref: The Cymbal Book, p174.

Ajax as a brand of cymbal I'm not sure about, but there is probably something on here if you search for Ajax. If you search for Zyn you will also find lots of info which Drumaholic has posted about them.

*edit* Here's a note about who made Ajax Cymbals: Boosey and Hawkes/Edgeware in the UK in the mid 60's till sometime in the 70's

from:

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=38293&highlight=ajax

So another UK manufactured cymbal which would probably be found on Premier kits although not made by division of Premier themselves.
