I have this snare and yep they sound brilliant. The extra holes do indeed look like they were for a muffler...wouldn't mind having one on mine.
No idea they are worth $300.00 either!

How do you tell a 20's from 30's?
After 27 the throw got changed and the engraving switched to the right of it. The Pioneer took that throw with six lugs. I think this one is 23/27.
Sinclair - the two piece NOB shells are amazing drums. I have this same drum, I think I paid close to $700 for it. Yes the 5" drums command good money, especially with 8 or 10 lugs. The 6 lug versions get a lot less in general.
If you can get it for any less than 6-700 I think you did really well.
Thanks mario. This is definitely a players drum so I think the 6-700 range is too much for it. I'm first going to ask what he wants. If it's in the 2-300 range I won't hesitate to get it. I've had a great time with my 6 lug which I know is not that valuable but still sounds great. The 8 lug appeals more to me than the 10 as it's not as crowded around the rim for rim shots cross stick etc.. Thanks for all the input. I'll keep ya posted.

I think the 8 lug models sound just right. I enjoy the 6 luggers as well. Have not owned one of these in 10 lug version yet. Just feel like 8 is plenty on these for some reason.
