Purdie gave me this beater and the pedal that goes with it. Nice Guy.

Here is what I found inside.

elliptical wooden spool

felt wrap with staples

thin black leather cover like a baseball, stapled

lambs wool was glued to leather.

Wow! Who would have thought that so many layers/components went into making a bass drum beater. Not me!

This is going to be cool watching it go back together.

Just a passing comment here, I reckon soft beaters are good for the old school music, on the big band gig sat night I found a 'soft' beater and used it for gig, it was better suited, but this is just off a cheap modern pedal, I like this one you've got with the inside stuff and especially this leather casing.

ODG - That beater and the pedal it attaches to are 100 years old. Scott has done a remarkable restoration on the pedal and now he's working on restoring the beater. I was just surprised that there were so many components to the thing.

I'll be watching to see how it turns out.

They wouldn't bother putting all that detail in nowadays, looking forward to seeing it all together good on both of you.

Re-used and re-wrapped the felt around the spool.

Glued and stapled as before.

Well, the only leather I had in the shop like a baseball was............

On a baseball. So I skinned it.

Cut the pieces and glued over felt. No staples.

Held in place with dental floss.

Maybe a little tight on the floss.

The wool will fill the voids.

Now I gotta find the wool.

Michaels art store/ Fabric store?

Well I'll be dipped in sh*t and rolled in peanuts! You did it! And with an All-American theme too! LOL

Scott - you gotta paint the whole thing in that dark gold paint so it looks like it did 100 years ago. You did a really fine job on that pedal and the beater. I gave it to the right guy...
