2009 DRUM WORKSHOP 5 x 14 SOLID ALUMINUM/TITANIUM ELECTROPLATED PROTOTYPE (#778626) Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi,

I got this drum back in 2009. My good friend and fellow drum collector Scott Cameron of The Drum Workshop Drum Co. is always looking out for me. Scott brought this drum into Gelb Music in Redwood City , CA., this is where my drum studio is located. There is a cool story about this drum that I will elaborate on later. So I brought the drum upstairs to my drum studio and played it for a while and was very happy with the sound. Sold! I was able to purchase the drum from DW with the help of Scott and Don Frank, the store manager of Gelb Music. The drum has been one of my 60 player snare drums in my drum studio. Thanks again to Scott for assisting me with the details of this drum.

2009 DRUM WORKSHOP 5 x 14 SOLID ALUMINUM/TITANIUM ELECTROPLATED PROTOTYPE (#778626)

The Story:

This drum was born on June 25, 2009. The hardware was chrome plated but could have been brushed nickel. A gentleman approached DW with an idea about a new type of plating called titanium electroplating. I have seen photos of this type of electroplating on custom cars. DW agreed to lend him this drum (probably just the hardware) and when the drum was ready both parties would discuss this new type of hardware plating and the possibilities of doing more business together. Scott told me that when the drum was presented to the decision makers at DW they were very impressed and were eager to explore the business potential. Unfortunately the deal-killer was the fact that the electroplating cost almost twice as much as the whole drum cost, so that was the end of any further business discussions. There you have it. This is the only DW drum in existence, a one-off prototype that is also a great sounding snare drum.

The drum is set up with an Evans G1 batter, resonant 300 bottom and Puresound 24 strand snares.

Enjoy!
