Hi,

I’ve had these drums for a while but they were only seen on pages 148-153 in my book: VINTAGE SNARE DRUMS THE CUROTTO COLLECTION so here they are offered to a wider audience.

2000 5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Prototype

2001 5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Model

2002 6.5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Model

From my book:

2000 5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Prototype:

“When the Tama Drum Company approached Kenny Aronoff with the idea of a signature snare drum he had just the answer, showing them a drum that John Aldridge had engraved for him several years earlier. This prototype Kenny Aronoff Model is a 5 x 14 10 lug brass shell that was black nickel plated and etched with a Japanese motif. The hardware is a combination of chrome and nickel plating. Tama presented this drum to Mr. Aronoff but he rejected it, desiring a drum that was engraved not etched. This drum was found at The Professional Drum Shop in Hollywood, CA. Tama officials at the 2002 NAMM Show verified the authenticity of this drum and were very curious as to how the drum was acquired, especially since there are only two of these prototype drums in existence.”

2001 5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Model: “The rejected prototype led first to a mass produced model with a hand-engraved shell, and eventually to this (5 x 14) Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster limited edition drum. Noted custom drum set artist John Douglas was commissioned to design a unique engraving pattern that would fit Kenny’s ideal. Thus the Twin Dragon pattern was created. Unlike the production models that had shells engraved in a much simpler pattern, Tama went all out on this model. Note the additional engraving on the lugs and rims. John Aldridge engraved all of the limited production drums. Only 42 of the 5 x 14s were produced and this drum is #32 of 42. There is a unique feature in the engraving pattern: the dragon’s head on the right is missing a nostril.”

2002 6.5 x 14 10 lug Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Model:

“This instrument is the same Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Model as the previous one but in the 6.5 x 14 shell size. Only 30 of these snare drums were engraved/produced; this is #01 of 30 that were offered to the public. John Aldridge engraved these drums as well.”

Enjoy!
