Recently picked up a shell described as NOS brass 2-to-1 from Fred Gretsch's warehouse of old Slingerland equipment. Upon receipt I determined the shell is actually copper - which Slingerland never offered as a catalog product.
While the shell has the distinctive 12-up / 6-down hole arrangement and triple center line, it was never drilled for strainer, muffler, or vent. My best guess is it's a prototype that wasn't finished, but I welcome input on this.
Regardless of its origin, the shell is still 30 years old and showed tarnishing and scuffs from being move around. Had it polished at a local metal shop, and plan to put a clear finish on it before building it out.
