Hey folks,
New to this forum. Got a couple of questions:
I recently came by a rogers kit for sale that I'm considering picking up, and wanted some input. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures (which I know really helps), but any input at all would be appreciated.
It's a 4 piece circa mid to late 60's with sizes 13, 14, 16, and 24 (virgin) in black strata. The bass hoops are fairly frayed (scratches/dings etc). Also, the kick and floor tom have some wrap cracks (the kick has about a 3-4 inch "semi oval" crack, the tom has a few cracks on it as well). The other two toms have no cracks at all and look great.
Aside from that, the shells seem to be in great condition, and the lugs/hoops/hardware seem to be in good condition (some minor pitting, small amount of rust that can be cleaned easily, etc). Overall, it's definitely not museum quality but is in decent shape.
So, #1: He's asking $700 for it, and I was wondering if that seemed like a fair price.
And #2: In terms of restoration (if I ever decided to), it seems like finding vintage wrap, especially black strata, is out of the question. Is this pretty much the case, or are there other places to look aside from the links provided by this site?
Thanks for all the help! If I missed any info that might be helpful, please let me know and I'll try to answer as best I can.
Cheers!
