I would agree. But it looks awfully new to be used.

I don't think so. But no mention of it in the ad.

All your worries explained.

Just a fold in the white cloth. I'm viewing on an iMac and looking at the photo in full size I can easily detect the fold of the cloth within the white area. I've annotated the area with two blue arrows (pointing at nearly right angles towards lines which you should be able to follow up and down the cloth) and one red arrow (points to the stitching which is visible within the apparent "hole" as well). The red arrow is nearly at right angles to the stitching.

Comparing the 1st and the 4th photo is another way to see it is has to be the cloth folded back. It is folded differently in the 4th photo, and the original "white" portion (which was at 12 o'clock) is much smaller.

Greenbriar is one of a number of eBay sellers who I've come across in my tracking who seem to try and bypass the MAP (minimum advertised price) which Paiste imposes. This seems to be done by claiming "shop soiled", or "demo", or just plain "used" and not mentioning a guarantee. That's why a sometimes brand new cymbal is called "used", at least as far as I can tell without being able to peer into the mind of the seller. It's all familiar stuff when you've recorded nearly 3000 sales.

I'm happy to bookmark this thread and report back when I see one. I may be the first, since I have to watch and read all of them to determine what is what. But then my coverage isn't guaranteed to be 100%, and although I try and include other online sales from forums, etc. I don't get them all. I only get CraigsList ones when somebody points them out in a forum. Just so you know the limits of my sampling frame.

Sales of used reissues first appeared on eBay (and got into my database) on May 11, 2011. So far I've got 112 sales of reissue 602s and none them are cracked. Of these two have some form of damage. One was an 18" Thin Crash with a tiny edge ding, and the other was a 20" flat with slight edge damage from dropping. The Crash was 2011, but the flat is still there for a little while longer:

For sale: Reissue 602 Medium Ride (with crack) Has been cut out by a laser beam, to resemble a brush cutter blade. Perfect job. Still sounds good. All reasonable offers considered ;)

Had he taken a better photo without that artifact, I think he might have had a better chance of selling it. As it is, he probably had to spend a lot of time answering prospective buyer's questions as to why it looks that way. And maybe a at least a few prospective bidders may not have given this cymbal a 2nd thought after seeing that picture and assuming that it was a cut-out crack. In the end that photo may have cost him the auction. Not smart.
