1984 yamaha stage-satiny red wrap

Loading...

I bought a set of Yamaha Stage Series drums, new, in 1984. the wrap was called Satiny Red. I've always wanted to ad 10" and 14" mounted toms, but haven't had any luck even finding that finish anywhere online. Any help or suggestions?

Interesting finish!

I don't recall seeing it before but I tend to focus on recording customs as you might imagine.

They look cool under the lights!

Hi Smarcha! Love those kits, I have a slightly later 5000 series kit but I always loved that finish. The 1981 catalog actually calls it "Silky Red" rather than "Satiny Red" but perhaps that was a regional difference. As far as factory kits go, only the Stage series was made in that finish, though it was an option on the Tour (7000) and Recording Custom (9000) kits at the time. I don't think they ever made a 10 or 14 inch in the 5000 in that finish, unless it was a special order. If you're REALLY lucky you may find a 7000 tom in that finish in the size you want, but I bet you'd have a long wait. If you do, it would match cosmetically because the 7000 used the same lugs as the 5000 you have. Not sure what you can do really, other than re-wrap your existing kit in something available today and then adding those extra toms would be much easier. Best of luck anyway, Doug.
