1982 Tama Royal Star kit

Loading...

Yes, I lifted this from eBay... I just happened to run across it this morning. I did think it was interesting enough, and if not, maybe scarce enough to become interesting. Anyway, I don't own 'em. I thought I'd grabbed the sellers moniker, but I guess I missed it. If these belong to one of 'us' here on the forum, my apologies. These are pick up only, and on the east coast (wrong one for me). Also, the auction is over I think. There are a few more pictures if anyone would like them. So... copied directly from the auction:

1982 Tama Limited Edition Royalstar 5 Piece Set

3-day sale !!!!! LOCAL pickup only

Rare 1982 Limited Edition Royalstar 5 Piece Drum Set

Birch covered Mahogany finished in satin cherry wine

Brand new Remo CS Clear - white dot heads

This kits are often discussed on the forums but little has been known about them.

They appear in no known catalog or Tama publication. Image #12 shows an image from the

October 1982 Modern Drummer Magazine. The photo was taken at the NAMM show and describes the set.

What's so special about this kit?

Hoshino-Camco Lugs. No other Tama kit has these lugs. These are the same lugs used on the Hoshino-Era Camco kits

The Big "T" badges have 82-XXXXX serial numbers. this kit was only available in 1982

Royalstar shells but with beautiful birch veneer. Before 1982 Royalstar kits were finished with wraps. In 1982 Tama introduced the "painted" finishes but those shells were shina not birch.

Satin Cherry Wine finish over birch veneer. While Superstar kits were available in Cherry Wine over birch, they weren't available in a Satin finish - only high gloss.

Matching wooden hoops

This set is iconic in that it exemplifies Tama's ceaseless pursuit to produce the highest quality, most aesthetically appealing kits at the best prices.

Drums:

8" X 12" Mounted Tom,

9" X 13" Mounted Tom,

16"x 16" Floor Tom,

14" X 22" Bass Drum

5" X 14" Snare Drum

This auction DOES NOT INCLUDE Cymbal stands, snare stand, hi-hat stand or bass drum pedal but these are available for an additional $120

Historically significant. Visually appealing Rock-solid construction Timeless styling

Cool. I bought a Royal Star kit brand new in 1982, exactly like these, same finish... EXCEPT for those awesome lugs. It was a 7 piece kit: 8, 10, 12, 13, 16, 22, all power tom sizes. It was 1982 after all. I loved those drums and played a lot of music with them. Wish I never sold them, but that's the way I feel about all my kits that are gone.

Hi Mike; Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. The guy listed them again, now saying he will ship them. Here's the eBay link:

Yeah, I've seen these lugs on three types of kits now. The original Hoshino Camco's, The later Camco by Tama kits (only a few, most have Tama lugs), and now these. Attached is the magazine photo.
