1979 Tama Superstar value question

Loading...

I am trying to sell a near-mint four piece 1979 Tama Superstar drum set on Craigslist for only $650 and have not even had a call. The ad has been running for a week. These drums sound amazing, look amazing and with the 24" kick drum, are loud as hell. What is it with these kits? These were Tama's top of the line kit from this era. These drums have original heads on top and bottom and only have very minor scratches. I typically only buy Ludwig kits, but these were in such good shape and sounded so good I could not pass them up. I know Craigslist is not ideal, but the shipping fiasco's with ebay keeps me away. What do you think these drums are worth? I bought a Slingerland kit and promised the wife I will sell to buy. Anyway, I thought these would go within a few hours.

$500 if in Canada

$450 if in US

there are reasons why ads don't get responses... just remember, if you now continually re-post every couple of days so the ad doesn't "get lost", what you're REALLY doing is establishing what a kit is NOT worth... and daily reminding everyone of that fact, which is VERY common on CL

better to state your price and wait... re-post every 3 weeks or so if you have to, but be patient until the right buyer comes along

REAL buyers know how to use a "search" function

amateur sellers don't

I've sold quite a few drum sets on Craigslist but they have all been Ludwigs. They always seem to sell fast. I guess I am shocked by the lack of love these drums get. I do not think Craigslist is a true indicator of value. I know I could sell these on ebay, but I hate the whole shipping fiasco. $450 is a trade in value on these kits.

Very good response.

Really nice drum set. Attractive by today's standards. Don't let it go for cheap. What are the sizes by the way?

Those do look like a great kit! I think sure they are worth the 650 unmolested IMHO. with original kick reso head and all. One of things I do to create desire for kits I sell is to take them out gigging. People often film at gigs and the videos get tagged on FB, then more people see the kit than the amount of people who were at the gig. Unless it's a huge gig, in which case I bring my Rogers!

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc

Timing? Going into the holiday season might make it harder for people to drop $650, too. Not everybody has an uncontrollable drum buying addiction. Just a thought.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.
