1977 14 X 24 Gretsch Bass Drum question Last viewed: 13 hours ago

Hello, I have a 1977 maple Gretsch bass drum 14 X 24 model 4269

and a matching 16X18 floor tom model 4419.

I'm looking to sell these but it's hard to narrow down a starting price.

Both need parts and have some scratches.

The bass drum needs a front hoop and spurs, the floor tom needs a bottom hoop and 1 t bar.

I'm not a drummer, so should I go about finding the parts and trying to put it together, or just sell as is?

I put it on craigslist for $300.00 and got five calls within a couple of hours, so I figure that's way low. Usually when I put things on craigslist it takes a week to get even one call.

So fixer up, or sell as is?

Thanks!

Matt

Even with the missing parts I would say $300 is a super deal to someone.

There is a market for the larger drums, It is smaller then other size Gretsch bass drums and floor toms.

I think you can do better then that for both drums, but I would sell them seperately because that will double the buyer potential.

Do a quick search on eBay for completed Grestch drums in those and other sizes, then you will have a better grasp on value.

If I were to sell them, I would probably start at $400 for the bass drum and $300 for the floor tom. It might take awhile for the right buyer, but someone has the matching kit and they want to add the larger bass or a larger floor tom. I would also avoid Craigslist because that is a different market and type of buyer then eBay. There are a lot of tire kickers, no shows and problems with spam on CL.

Cash is king! So if the right guy shows up with the cash then that speaks volumes for completing any deal.

Thanks David!

I know what you mean about craigslist, but I've had success in the past.

There always looking for a steal, not a deal, so that's why I got so much interest.

I'm putting them up on ebay tomorrow.

I will also list them separately, makes more sense.
