1974 Slingerland BR/TDR

Loading...

Here's a shot of my 1974 5X14 Slingerland Buddy Rich Model w/TDR 100 strainer in original WMP. This is the drum that DrCJW was referencing in the post dealing with the Slingerland Concert King/Buddy Rich model snare drum.

This is an EARLY model, and it features the Slingerland 5 ply shell with 10 lugs, three air vents, and Slingerland OEM StickChopper hoops. As an added bonus, this drum was never drilled for a tone control/muffler... just like Buddy's! Most all of them left the factory with a tone control/muffler. StickSaver hoops were also the norm... the Choppers had to be requested. Buddy preferred the StickChoppers and had them on almost ALL of his Slingerland snare drums. The Slingerland badge is two panels over from the TDR strainer... but I thought the nicer view would be of the TDR 100 strainer.

The snare beds are very gentle/shallow on the BR/TDR as the snares extend all the way across the bottom head. It really is a nicely designed drum and it plays and sounds GREAT!

Slingerland made quite a few of these back in the day... but ... there seem to be many more of the chrome plated Brass shell models than the 5 ply wood... especially in Buddy's color... WMP!

Buddy did in fact like this snare drum, and he played it pretty steadily until he went back to the Fibes COF SFT 690... while still endorsing Slingerland of course!

prestonprince!

Thanks for the inquiry on this nice specimen of Slingerland manufacture... but ... it took a while to find one of these that wasn't completely trashed and/or missing a lot of parts. Seeing that this particular drum is part of my Buddy Rich snare drum collection that covers ALL the snare drums he played between 1949 and 1976, it isn't for sale at this time. And truth be told, this drum demanded my attention to get it back to what you see here... but it was worth it! A very nice sounding drum too! Anyway,

All I can suggest is to keep looking... eBay is without a doubt one of the best resources for locating what you seek. You could also keep an eye peeled for the Slingerland "Artist" model as DrCJW and I had discussed. Hope this was of some help!
