1974 Gretsch SSB Bop

Loading...

Here's an odd one for you SSB#1 collectors that you don't see everyday.

It's a beautiful 100% original numbers matching circa 1974 (in extra dark walnut finish) SSB#1 bop kit with a factory installed "hybrid" rail mount.

Check it out... I say "hybrid" because the bottom part (the banana) is from the earlier two-point W&A rail mount while the top part (the long reach) is from the later Gretsch four-point system (note the L arm into the floor tom bracket)... basically a perfect mixture of the two rail mounts... this could have been special ordered that way or just a odd Gretsch thing created by the owner? Pretty huh!

Nonetheless the bearing edges on all four drums are exactly like the RB era so sound wise this SSB#1 kit has that nice & rich unique tone that makes it perfect for trio jazz work.

Hahaha, oh the pain...

But thanks so much for your understanding however, I can't make it stop... basically, I'm totally ingrossed and on a fast roll just swimming in vintage bop kits... so, I just might have a few more cool kits to share so stay tuned.

All of us on a drum budget are in serious trouble. Those are just amazing. I'd pay to rent those for a week or two..!

I once had a SSB Gretsch 12" tom with RB edges.Love the drum .Too bad I didn't hold on to it. I understand collectors want things in order , as it should be. But if you're just a player and you want the sound of a round badge Gretsch , the badge doesn't know what drum shell it's on. I'm sure there will be a slight difference in sound due to the air vent.

Anyway, two most wonderful sets you have.I'm jealous to say the least. Please enjoy them. I had one years ago and let it go in return for a 3 piece oaklawn Camco kit that I put together piece by piece over a period of time. Not too bad of a deal but I still miss the Gretsch.
