1973 Slingerland Phantom kit

Loading...

My brother donated a 1973 Slingerland Phantom kit (50N-P) in excellent condition to the special needs school K-12 where I teach. Before I turned the students loose on it, I researched it a bit and found out is was not only vintage, but pretty rare. It includes Ziljian cymbals bought at the same time. It is missing a rubber piece on one cymbal foot and anouther one is split, but is otherwise in incredible shape. I think the skins are original. My brother has stored it and only played it 3 times in the last 20 years. It sounds and plays great. I am going to sell it to get cash for our music program. We recieved a grant last year for a recording studio and bought some entry level instruments with the recording equipment. It was a great success. The kids respected the equipment, learned a lot, and were motivated to work hard in school to get the reward of extra time on the instruments. We need more instruments to expand the program, so I want to get the most I can while still being fair to the buyer. What should I ask?

Wow!!!!! What a rare set,in 30+ years in dealing in vintage drums i have only seen one other set that was about 7 years ago,i made a offer of 2,000.00 and they turn it down,it was the same size set as your's but it had a chrome snare, your's have a matching snare i would say 2,500.00 or even more...Mikey

Awesome. That would allow me to really expand the music program. We had a lot of success last year with an electronic drum kit. The students could use headphones during class when they finished their work. We also used headphones with an electric guitar and a keyboard, but the drums were the most popular.

Sadly, in this economy, that is exactly what I was thinking, however I am not the Slingerland expert. My area of dominance is in the less exact science of old crap...Made In Japan crap, to be exact. But 2500 should be a great deal for you and the buyer.
