1972 Premier 3 ply Gold Glass Glitter

Loading...

Yep, one more Premier kit: this one is my studio/recording kit. 12, 16, 22 in gold glass glitter wrap. Slotted tension rods, cast hoops... It just sounds SO GOOD under the perfect pair of microphones. I have it all deadened for recording, but the drums sound incredibly deep. I have the batter heads tunes a bit high (so they don't dent easily, mostly) & the reso's a bit low, but this kit still sounds DEEP. Very "nineteen seventies" sounding. And it looks great, too!!!!

I currently own 3 model 2000 Premier snare drums. This 6.5 x 14 ten lug is my fave. Its also in the best condition. The date inside says "May 1, 1975" - May Day, baby!!!!!

This is the Premier kit I own with the most "used" shells (scraped up on the inside pretty bad, with marks, a few light gouges, but the bearing edges are clean & unmarked). but on the other hand, they sound the deepest & wettest. With Remo Emperors batter side and diplomat resonants, these sound awesome under a pair of great condensers. I recently discovered the entry level Audio Technica Pro 37 over head mics (Steve Albini called them "THE best mics under $1000/pair - hands down!") and these drums SHINE underneath a pair in the right room. I also love the AT 3528 for stereo OH's (8' high), with a pair of close mic'd AT3525's left & right about 3' off the ground and 12" from the floor & hi hat. With a Deep Kick mic (under $150) and 2 OH's these drums (I call her "Goldie") friggin' SING!!!!

Yeah that's gorgeous. One regret is that there are no great Premier classic kits available in the US. Or very few at least.
