1971 Gretsch Name Band

[Attachment: 131968]After a rehab being spread out over 18 months-mostly due to work and difficulty finding parts-the Name Band was finished, and SOLD.

“Name Band” drum set manufactured by the Fred Gretsch Company, Inc.

60 Broadway, Brooklyn NY 11211; Elmhurst, IL 60126

Year: 1971

This era Gretsch drums nicknamed “stop-sign badge” (or “SSB” in vintage drum speak) for the 1970s era octagon-shaped brass manufacturer name badge. Name Band set, which remained unchanged over the years was made in 1961 and was manufactured through 1976. Referred to as the round badge in the 1960s and stop sign badge from 1970-76.

Wrap: Copper Champagne Sparkle; Wood plies: 6; maple with gumwood; manufactured by sub-contractor Jasper Wood Products, Jasper Indiana.

Interiors painted “silver galvanized fence paint”

30 degree bearing edge

Chrome over die-cast rims

Snare #4165 10 lug chrome over brass “Professional Snare Drum,” with #5378 & rear #5379 “Lightning” throw-off.

Bass drum: #4249 20 inch with winged disappearing drum spurs; #4955 Floating Action Bass Drum Pedal. Jimmy Pratt bass drum tone control #5430

Mounted tom #4416 13X9

Floor Tom 16X16 #4418 with legs (added modern era Gretsch equivalent mounts & legs)

Snare and toms have #5540 internal tone control knobs (mufflers).

Hi-hat #4844

Snare stand #4983

Cymbal stand #4826 floor

Rail consolette mounted tom holder #4942 (never found)

Bass drum mounted cymbal holder #4895 “All-height” adjustable (modern era equivalent)

Shown in 1971 Gretsch catalog, page 5, in black pearl wrap; early 60s version had 3 plies

Present-day USA-made Gretsch drums are made in the Gretsch factory in Ridgeland South Carolina. Gretsch Drums, as of this info sheet date, is owned by Drum Workshop, Inc., of Oxnard California.

Thanks Dan, like most of my rehabs, it's hard to let go once finished, but even the great Buddy Rich could play only one set at a time! My hardest lesson-learned doing this set: post 1968, DO NOT remove the lugs as the lugs screws strip readily and were not meant to be removed. I spent a lot of extra dough buying replacement lugs. But that wrap sure is pretty! D.
