1970's Tama Imperialstar

Loading...

Kit was made around the mid 1970's, still has the re-rings inside the

drums.

22" bass,12",13" toms,16" floor tom. Original wrap, no bubbles, or

serious damage. The only issues with the toms is that there is some

cracking of the wrap where the internal tone controls went. If they

were to ever be replaced the cracks wouldn't be noticeable.

The bass drum has one small hole next to the bass drum spur mount,

that's it. Lugs, rims, tension rods are all original.

The heads are newer, been used but still have a lot of life left in

them. The front head has been replaced with a white Tama Imperialstar

head as opposed to the clear.

Personally played this set out a few months back after I had it back

to ready. A great versatile set of drums. I personally own a set from

'84 and love them.

I am including two different tom holders. One is a double, the other

is a single if you prefer just one tom on the bass drum.

Overall the kit is really good shape and is ready to play today. If

you have any other questions about the kit just let me know.

Just curious if this is what Stewart Copeland was using with the police? I'm thinking the Synchronicity record and earlier...

From what I know he used Imperialstars on all their recordings until they split. I mean until the later '70s when Tama came out with the Superstar line, these were the highest end drums they made.

Cool. I was looking at Tama when I ordered my blue kit, but they did not offer standard depth toms at the time ('93 I think) but I love my RC's.

I always loved Stewart's sound too. I watched the video "Police around the world" many times while working in the video store...

He's always been one of my favorites. Police is actually one of my favorite bands. They may have been more mainstream and poppy with certain songs. But man their music was dark and creepy. Always love how people use " Every Breathe You Take " as a love song when in reality it's a song about stalking, lol. And yea for a while they used Power size toms. My starclassic is from '96 and uses the deeper toms. Subsequently the 12" & 14" I use as floor toms with the 10" up top ( the 10" is standard depth - but it's from a few years later )

Pretty sure some of the Police hits were recorded with Superstars, tons of pictures of studio time with Stewart using some super mahagony SS's.
