1970's Ludwig kit - But what year? Last viewed: 49 minutes ago

Loading...

I have a 1970's Ludwig kit, but I'm not sure. Sizes are 22, 13, 16.

Serial numbers (Last two may be incorrect due to a bad picture I took, but the first one is definitely correct):

1856686

961917

297680

Generally, how much would a kit from this year be worth? I know that the blue sparkle skin was replaced about 5 years ago.

I have the Ludwig Serial Number book (the second one that goes into more depth) that the 'Cook' one (I think that was the author). I'll look up what it says tonight and post findings. I'm at work now, and don't have it handy. Cheers

It was made around 78-early 79.Being that it was re wrapped,it's value is substantially less than if it was all original.I'd say 5-650 if no other modifications were made.

Because the set is rewrapped (the badges have been separated from their drums and could have been switched), coupled with the apparent large differences between serial numbers, I would be very hesitant to estimate the age of your drums. Can you provide some pictures and more details? Are the shells 6 ply? Can you verify the second and third serial numbers? Which style of badges are involved? What style of tom mount is used?

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72
