1970s Black Beauty values

Hey!

i am on the case of buying a 1979/80 Black Beauty SuperSensitive in VeryGood+ Condition.

I know people say, a drum is always worth as much as a person is willing to pay for it, but are there any rough figures of how much I should pay max.?

The asking price is 750€ so far, which I think is not too bad for the European market?!?!

Is there a huge difference in general value between Supra and SuSe BBs from the late 1970s? Are any of them more desirable? (not talking about sound here, just how often they show up...)

I have a 1979/80 6.5 Black Beauty and their reputation preceeds them-absolutely one fantastic snare in every aspect!I`m not sure of their value in that year model but i have seen late 70`s 6.5 BB`s go for $850. and better in very good condition.

The Super Sensitive versions of the 70s Black Beauty tend to go for lower prices on the used market. Same for more modern used ones as well. Not so many potential buyers are interested in what they perceive as the extra complication of the SuperSensitive mechanism. They may be fewer 70s Black Beauty Super Sensitives appearing on the used market than Supra style ones, but demand is even lower (based on price) again.

The expected price for a 6.5" deep one is significantly higher than for a 5" one, so we do need to know which one you have your eye on.

It has been a long time since I did proper tracking of used prices on eBay for these sorts of snares (kind of got carried away on cymbals :D ) but I know from past comparisons that in Europe, Ludwig drums command a much higher price in the used market relative to the USA market. Although international comparisons are always methodologically difficult, you can certainly expect to pay a premium over what our US members would expect to be reasonable.

Sorry, i should have mentioned, it's a 14x6,5 BB SuSe. B/O badge Serial 21*****.

Prices EUR/USD. When I buy vintage drums, a lot of times I take the US prices as reference. Here's why:

When I buy drums from the US, lets say for $1000 and import them to Germany, I will have to pay customs, taxes and shipping. Adding up all of this the final price in EURO often is very close to the amount in Dollars.

Here's my standard calculation:

Drums $1000

Shipp. $150

= $1150 = 850€

+ 20% customs and taxes = 1020€

I hope I make sense?! This works very well as a reference.

So if you tell me a suggested price for a drum in USD, I have a very good idea where I am at price-wise, and maybe add a little value for the European market :-)

Thanks guys.
