1970 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl Test Drive

Loading...

I just got my 1970 Ludwig Set shipped to me Friday. I spent a few hours dismantling them, shining them up with Novus 1 & 2, then reassembled them. All of the brightwork was already perfect. I tuned them the best I could with the mismatched heads that came with them, then took them out for a test drive tonight at a restaurant gig (using Hot Rods). I used my COB WFL Supra with just the 13, 16 and 22.

I thought they sounded pretty good from behind the set, but the bass player commented on them several times. “Those drums sound GREAT.” Got new heads on order through Amazon, and still trying to decide which snare to get. I’m seriously considering Mark and Catherine’s Super Sensitive. Would a 6 1/2” super sensitive be too much firepower for a 60’s Rock band?

In a word, no. Go for it. I sometimes use a 7x14 for similar music.

Think bonzo and his snare

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
