1968 Acro find

Loading...

Hey no problem, you did not hilack the thread. I like to talk finishing, its the most important part of the custom cabinet building. I am playing around in the shop today with some stains, dyes to come up with a base color for the copper sparkle. I think I have it. Its nice to have a boat load of products at my fingertips but it makes the decision making hard, lol!!

Thank you,

Jeff C

+1.Those keystone acros seem to go for more money these days.Mine is a 65,with a script logo strainer/butt and red felt muffler.Great drum.

No way you over paid, that was a steal, especially with the 2 ZildjiansClapping Happy2

Hey, that is the joy of Acro's. I have each of mine set up slightly different. Different snare types & wire counts. Different head combinations... It's a blast, and they all sound different.

If that's your one and only (to this point) I think I would go with the original style.

Never had an Acro before, eh? Well, I'll wager it will become one of (if not THE) favorite snare drum!

You did very well, I think....and I'm a miser!

Hey Jeff!

Okay, so a couple of questions, please.

How is that copper metal flake thing coming. And how did you end up setting up the Acro?

Also, Have you seen the 'Glitter Blast' spray paint? I'm not suggesting you use it, since you obviously know what you're doing, but for painting monkeys like myself... I'm getting ready to experiment on a new-ish Ludwig import kit that someone stripped and stained.

I posted pictures of the copper drums under the restoring vintage drum section called " copper sparkle experiment". I just ended up getting a new bottom Evans hazy 300 for the snare side and installed a used remo ambassador coated head on top. I also bought some cheep snare wires from sound percussion, 20 wires. I had to go cheep, I am almost broke right now. The drum sounds good but kinda echo's a bit. Ill play around with it when I get time. As far as the spray paint goes I just dont know what to say. I dont hardly ever use spray paint so that might be a better question for someone else.

Thank you

Based on what I'm seeing on eBay, seems that $50 for any Acrolite snare is a deal and a half. Half an hour with some steel wool and that Acro would be worth at least $100.
