Rufus,

that is a nice snare but it isn't in mint condition. You can tell by the faded greens, which is common with this wrap. But still, a nice drum and worth a pretty penny. If all the whites on the snare were the original pristine green color, it could be worth as much as $2900. Maybe less in the current market, and depending on how badly someone wants it. With the wrap in this condition, which is called the "red white and blue" psych red. it is worth considerably less than if it were "mint".

Hope this helps,

Mike

Here's a pic of near mint.

It is the same color as when I bought it in the 70's. If someone has a kit that old then it to would have fading and therefore a match. I am still looking for info on 1967 red psych.

If that is how your snare looked when you bought it in the 70s, then it was already faded. Direct sunlight is the culprit. If you want to keep it from further fading, keep it out of direct sunlight.

There are kits out there, from 67, 68, 69, that have little or no fading. The Pic I posted of the near mint 1968 snare was taken in 2011.

Here's a pic I took in 2011 of my 1968 floor tom.

Very nice drum you have there! Psych Red and mod orange appeared around June of 1967. I saw a psych red set at a drum show that was dated July 1967. The reason people get confused is because an ad for those two colors first appeared in the 1968 janurary Ludwig drummer. The ad said the colors were new but they had been out already since June. Also both colors never made a catalog until 1970. This is why so many people get confused.

The white paint also ended around march-April 1968. Good luck with the drum! It's a beauty.

Thanks Kurt, that is exactly the kind of info I need. I just checked the serial number and it matches up with late 1967.
