1967 Ludwig Psychedelic Red Downbeat

Loading...

What is this worth? It's a matching serial 12-14-20 downbeat kit. One of the drums is date stamped 1967. The most glaring issues are that the reinforcement rings on the kick and floor tom were repainted white. The batter side hoop is missing all but a foot of inlay. Both hoops were repainted black. No extra holes or mods. Original bearing edges. Average rust on the rail consolette. Average pitting on half of the lugs. 6 or so unoriginal t-rods. Slight seam rippling near one of the floor tom lugs and a couple of the kick lugs.

Oh, and what's the best way to remove the white paint without damaging the original resocoat?

Man, those are cool. I would think if you got them for less than 2k you would be doing good. As for removing a white paint...don't know if that willl be something you can accomplish. If it is a heavy latex, you might be able to peel it off after softening, but I don't really think you can do it without taking the resocoat off as well.

There is some fade on those babies...and if you are going to buy, know that it will be very hard to find matching inlay.

Actually, UV waves are the biggie mucho bad mambo jambas that fade that wrap. So, heavy exposure to UV would do it for a 'new' batch of thin hoop liners. Just a thought.
