Ok, I own Novus but haven't used it yet. I assume that you would use #3 on the entire drum even though the deep scratches are only in one "panel". Correct?

The novus treatment worked great on my hollywood's. I did the whole drum with #3 then went over the worst places a cupl more times. Then used #2, thats when they really started to shine. #1 last, then lightly buff with a clean all cotton cloth and wa la, beautiful drums.

Elbow grease with #3 is the key ingredients

Good luck.

Be careful when using Novus # 3.

It is a very thick paste that's actually hard to buff off, and in my particular case, actually left an uneven residue that I couldn't get off with Novus # 2 or anything else!

I would test a VERY small spot with Novus # 3 to see if it works/if you can get it all off. I know some other forum members experienced the same things with Novus # 3.

Thumbs up for lighter fluid. Just get a large bottle of Ronsonol from Walgreens. That stuff works great on sticky residues, price tags, grease etc. And it's cheaper than Goof Off.

I haven't tried Meguiar's PlasticX yet, but I just bought some that I am going to try out on some MIJ Root Beer Swirl's that I just got. I like Novus; we'll see how PlasticX compares.

vyacheslav - Thanks for the heads up!

I have a pair of MIJ red tiger pearl toms I bought on eBay last year real cheap - I think I will try #3 out on one of them first!

Sounds like you used too much #3 and then left it on too long. A little bit goes a long way, you don't have to slather it on. I put a blob about the size of a quarter on the shell and then rub it out onto the shell until I need more to continue. All that's left (or should be,) is a light haze that you can buff off with a cotton rag. Cut back on how much you're using and I'll bet no more problems with #3.

Too many great drums to list here!

I let it soak just a bit. then I start scratching the edges of the tape a bit with my index fingernail. I know it sounds crazy, but it works and doesn't scratch the drum either. takes a little work but not too much.

I put a drop or two on it, then rubbed it with my finger and then let it sit for a minute or two.

Should it sit longer? Use more?
