1966 Rogers Tower Snare Drum / WMP

Loading...

Out of my personal collection .. and .. PLEASE DO have a read as this is a unique drum!

1966 Rogers Tower model snare drum .. Cleveland tag #11384 .. ALL original except heads .. and I am just the 2nd owner. This drum has been in my collection for over 20 years. The drum has never been out of the house or gigged since it was NEW!, thus the WMP is still pretty white. The drum was ordered in 1966 by a jazz drummer in Boston that wanted to use it in his teaching studio. He did exactly that, and it was never gigged. After he passed I was alerted to it's availability by a friend that knew the family. I have had it ever since. Here's a little about the drum, and of course the pics will also tell the tale here!

The Rogers Tower is in essence the exact same 8 lug model as the Powertone. They both share the same shell, lugs, and hoops. The only departure between the two is the Tower features the slightly lighter/less mass throw and butt. The Tower has a Sta-Tite throw and stamped butt. Some guys feel this gives the drum an even more "open" sound ... but having compared the two, I honestly couldn't hear any difference. The Tower and Powertone of the same era sounded pretty identical to me! This being a 1966, it's right dead center in being considered the most desirable Rogers made drums. Flat gray interior, and perfect label/tag. As mentioned the WMP wrap is PERFECT and still pretty white given that it's 52 years old. How does it sound? ...

This drum can be incredibly FAT at a lower tuning, or extremely articulate tensioned up. Amazing with brushes!, and would function in any musical idiom.

Price: $400.00 and I will split the shipping with the buyer anywhere in the contiguous USA! THANKS for looking!

Your Tower is a stunner! Hard to believe how incredibly clean and lustrous all the chrome as remained over the decades! I hope it finds a good home!

Mark!

Gotta agree ... the chrome is just stupid nice on this drum! Actually, the entire drum is, and again, probably because it was really never OUT of the house in it's entire life! I also have a 1967 Rogers Luxor in WMP, and in the same condition as this Tower! That one is also available, but I haven't put up the ad as yet. I SOLD my 1965 Rogers Powertone in WMP last week ... so hopefully these other two will also find the proper home! THANKS for your comments Mark!

I'm selling most of my kits but plan to extend my snare collection. This drum would be a real nice addition, I think the price is very fair. If business keeps going good I would buy this one. But, need to recover from the holiday expenses and I have some repairs to pay for on my truck coming up. Maybe I will get lucky and it will be available a month or two down the road, but at this price I doubt it . Beautiful drum Tommy, best of luck to you.

Thank you!

If there's anything Rogers did well,it's their chrome plating.

I have a 40 year old Dyna and it is spotless.
