Sorry, it was 1960 Hollywood. My wife says I should be ashamed of myself for being so cynical. I guess it is possible that both people died and left their kits in the attic.

Thanks. That's what I want to hear. I'm going to post some pictures of the cymbals and see what everyone thinks.
Moving to the Cymbal Forum.
Thanks again!
When I purchased the kit the seller told me that the original owner purchased them for a sibling who died shortly after. The drums were put away in the attic till now. Because of the good condition and original heads I believed it. Today I was on ebay looking at a similar kit, 1960 Club Date, and the same story was written, "drum set purchased for son who died, drums in attic...."Is this a common line? Have you all heard this 1000 times?
Dude...get rid of that kit ! People...people.... DIE when they own one of these !!!!...then you next-of-kin will just put 'em in the attic and the curse will continue !!!!

All in all, if they are real cherry, you didn't get ripped off. I think the pricetag was a bit high, IMHO, but...you didn't get burned. I am surprised at that eFlay auction bid....but, keep in mind, your black oyster is definitely rarer than gold sparkle, so....
Unfortunately, the cymbals are worth almost nothing.

Revise: those last 3 pies which you just posted are worth about $300 all together, so...yeah...basically the entire rig with drums, bags, cymbals.... all added together...I'd ascribe about a $1400-1500 market value.
So, you ended up right in there on what you paid, after all.
Thanks for all the replies. This is a really cool site. It's interesting that the market for 30's cymbals is not as strong as 30's drums. No worries though. I'm happy with the purchase and don't intend to sell.
Thanks again for all your help. I'll leave you with the final cymbal which should put me over the top.
(yeah I know, 30 something, cool cymbal, no value) :)
