Hey Mike!
Thanks Mike! I know you're a big fan of this particular set-up too! It's hard not to like as it's an almost timeless configuration. Indeed!

Tommy, When you get back from your well earned (of late) vacation..
Do you use the same method with tuning on the Emad as you have previously posted on BD tuning generally.. (Top & bottom lugs taking the strain.. And the other lugs backed right off)
Just curious.. I have not yet tried an Emad Batter..
Cheers

Was I on vacation??? Are you in the tunnel? Am I in the tunnel?
I do use the exact same tuning/tensioning method with the Evans EMAD, and truth be told, it works as well or better with these pre-muffled type batter heads as it does with the unmuffled type. Real quick thumbnail sketch:
Install the head as you normally would with any batter... tension EVENLY all way round just past "wrinkle", but with enough tension to make sure each t-rod is in tune with the others, then... top 2 t-rods and bottom 2 t-rods get tensioned UP with that amount being where YOU want it sound/feel wise. Then... the remaining t-rods on each side get de-tuned, or left as is, so they are just past a "wrinkle"... and there you are! This method works every time, but of course FINE TUNE to personal taste. In some cases that FINE TUNING will take the head out of where you started, but that's okay too as you have to have someplace to start, and this method will get you started every time! Each drum is different of course, and I have had a few that took a little MORE time to get right... and others that were like instant!

Thanks Tommy, I know your method works just fine.. I set up a PS3 on my 24x14 using your method .. quick to do and sounds great.. not 100%happy with the PS3 though. I have an early series Fiberskyn which I will try later this week, (looking for a little more warmth?)... if I'm not happy with that I'll grab an Emad..
Love your setup & kit... love to sit behind it
I miss the 2ft setup (pic) and am on the lookout for a 16 to go with my 18..
Cheers
