Hi all,
First post here. I'm trying to get a ballpark value to make sure this is as good of a deal as I think it is.
I'm purchasing a '65 Ludwig super classic kit in (definitely aged and gigged) silver sparkle. Shells only. 22/13/16. It's past ginger ale. It's more like an egg nog sparkle these days.
A friend and professional drum maker/collector found these for me to restore. He knew I wanted the kit and their sound and I didn't care about appearance. I'll be gigging with this kit.
The shells are in round, white interiors. 3 ply mahogany with re-rings. Bearing edges were rough, so they have been professionally recut by him. 45 degree with a roundover. One tom hoop is unoriginal, but chrome over steel like the mid-late 60's ludwig hoops. Stock rail consollete, stock bass drum-mounted cymbal arm, and stock legs on floor tom.
He cleaned all the shells, all wraps are without cracks and no lifting at the seams. He then put a thin layer of clear to protect after his cleaning.
T-tods and claws on bass hoops are unoriginal, but authentic ludwig. Bass drum has two extra holes where consolette mount was shifted towards center. That has been moved back and holes plugged with matching aged silver sparkle old stock wrap.
Hoops were originally painted all black, but were professionally cleaned with inlay removed. Repainted black and inlay put back in.
Matching keystone badges and serial numbers on all shells. 176XXX.
Pictures are attached. I wish I had more to show, but don't have the kit with me. I'm getting this kit for $550... What would you pay for these?
Any other thoughts welcome.
Thanks for your help!
