1965 gold sparkle Slingerland project kit

Loading...

Hi everybody,

So, ok, I have here a 1965 gold sparkle Slingerland kit (20”, 13”) that I am looking to sell. It’s definitely a project kit. What I find interesting about it is that the badge is a red Shelbyville, Tenn badge which was only used for a short time. The badge is on the bass but not the tom.

I have some extra stuff that I’m tossing in as well. The extra things are:

What looks like, an older 14” Ludwig marching snare (not sure of the year) that was converted into a tom. It’s the same gold sparkle as the Slingerland kit.

Another 20” Slingerland bass (not sure of the year) drum with the same dimensions and lug configuration as the gold sparkle one. It doesn’t have a wrap and it seems to have a thin finish on it.

An older Slingerland pedal (not sure of the year) that is not exactly pretty but it works.

The mount for the Slingerland kit to hold the tom to the bass.

An extra Slingerland 20” wood hoop which is the same as the one original one on the gold sparkle bass.

The deal with everything:

The gold sparkle 1965 Slingerland 13” tom seems to be in good condition. The seams are all in good shape and there is no warping. There is some wear where the mount for it was which I removed as soon as I got the kit. Also, it’s missing the bottom sticksaver rim and 6 rods to connect the rim to the lugs.

The gold sparkle 1965 Slingerland 20” bass seems to be in good condition. The major problem with it is that the back (not beater side) is warped. When I got the kit the there was only a head on the beater side of the drum. Also, the tom was mounted to the top of the drum. I could tell that the way it was stored the weight of the tom that leaned back the bass and so it warped into a bit of an oval instead of a circle. I measured it pretty precisely and it’s pretty an exact oval width wise. It’s 1/2 of an inch wider then it is tall. You can still fit a head over it and that helps in bringing it back into shape. My guess would be that if you take the time to put a luthier’s clamp on it over time it will go back into shape and if you keep a head on it, it will stay in shape. The bass drum has all the hardware it needs. On a side note, on the warp side I have a plain black non-original 20” hoop. I only put it on because the hoop is warp into an oval as well and so what I did is I put it on opposed the oval of the bass to bring it back into shape. Clever, I know. I’m sure that if you can get the bass back into shape then you can just toss that hoop and use the other original Slingerland hoop that I have included with this lot of stuff. Also, there seems to be a man-made hole, which I showed with a quarter next to it. It’s next the edge of the non-beater side and it’s pretty covered up when there is a head and rim over it. There is also two holes in the beater side rim for it. I’m not sure what they were put there for. I moved that part of the rim towards the bottom of the bass so that it’s not seen. The rim still works just fine.

The gold sparkle Ludwig 14” tom is in badly warped. I’m sure if someone knew what they were doing they might be able to restore it but I wouldn’t know how. If not then it would at least be good for the hardware it has on it.

The other Slingerland 20” bass is in good condition and has no warping at all. It has the 8 lugs around it and the leg mounts. Also, I’m throwing in two rods that are the exact diameter of the real Slingerland legs that are on the gold sparkle bass. However, they aren’t original Slingerland. They are just metal rods. But they do the trick. It also has, what I believe is, the original tom mount on it.

Anyways, I know I wrote a lot but I just didn’t want to leave anything out. Please if you have any questions about the kit and extra stuff let me know. I’m not even sure what to price all this stuff at but if you are interested in it and want to let me know what you think it’s a good deal then let me know.

haha, thanks for the heads up man!

ya i just have it listed on there to see who is interested.

i do realize that it would be an involved project to take on but i just figured i'd put it up here just to see if anyone here is interested in it.

i was hoping to get $300 for the whole lot of it.

i read this forum everyday since i've joined and there are people much more experienced then me that could say if that is a fair price or not.
