1964 Wmp Ludwig Downbeat Snare

Loading...

I've got a 1968 WMP Downbeat Kit and had been looking for the matching snare (at a reasonable price, of course) for what seemed like forever. A gentleman out in California happened to have a WMP Downbeat snare that he was trying to match up with a WMP Downbeat kit. We had corresponded with eachother for years, but it became quite obvious that neither one of us honestly wanted to give up on our respective "hunts".

Just prior to the holidays I came to the conclusion that I'd never find the matching snare and asked the gentleman to touch base with me in early January. I informed him (very reluctantly) that I'd be willing to sell him the kit. He was extremely excited about it.

Well...........after the holidays I didn't hear from him so I sent an email and asked if he was still interested in the kit. He informed me that he was working on another project and no longer had the funds for the purchase. He then offered me the Downbeat snare at a "more than reasonable" price. I jumped at the opportunity!Cool Dude

Funny how things work out at times. My lovely wife repeatedly "counsels" me regarding my drum sales, trades and purchases. One of her favorite lines is: "If you're meant to have a drum, you'll have the drum!" Perhaps she's got something there!

Although my kit's a 1968 and the snare's from 1964 (S/N 76373), the wrap matches up fairly well to my other Downbeat pieces after I put a little "elbow grease" into the effort.

oldschool,, beautiful snare drum, and I also subscribe to the same philosophy as your wife's meaning, if you get the drum or drums they were meant to be and if not then not, but it's a great find and a great story!!!Yes SirClapping Happy2

Wow! That looks great! Any chance we can see the set? My favorite Ludwigs come from the 68-69 time frame and a wmp downbeat from then would be awsome! You don't see very many downbeats from 1968 and even fewer from 1969. Great score!

Nice find--That would make any kit look awesome regardless of the finish. I would love to use that on any James Brown tune.
