1964 Ludwig Super Classic, Oyster Blue Pearl, 5-piece (extra 1968 12" tom + Supra)

Loading...

Dear forum members and onlookers,

I am reluctantly putting my trusty Luddie up for sale!

First thing to note: this kit is based in the UK. It's not 100% original, but it does have a bit of history to it. The kit was bought in Liverpool by Colin Roberts who was the drummer in 'The Caverners', resident band at the Cavern Club. Of course, in those days you were always going to need a Ludwig if you were going to stand in Ringo's shadow :). The drums were passed through a safe pair of hands in the 1980s and I am now the third owner.

Comments:

1) An extra tom-tom has been added to the kit in 1968, and with it the bass drum was modified to take a Ludwig twin tom holder; however, the original Consolette holder has been kept with the kit and can be re-fitted if you wish to play it as a 4-piece and sell on the extra tom.

2) Another mod to the bass drum is the addition of later Ludwig spurs alongside the originals—the later ones being more stable and easier to play on.

3) Finally, not all of the wingnuts are original: 3 or 4 have been replaced. I don't know about the tension rods and hoops.

The three points above reflect that this has been a 'working' drumkit rather than a preserved or restored piece. Nevertheless, the shells are in excellent condition. The BB mufflers are original and in fine working order; the floor tom still has its date stamp. There's also the LM400 Supraphonic snare (slight pitting, but otherwise excellent), the original WFL snare stand, the Spur-Lok hi hat stand (with replacement spindle) and WFL Speed King pedal.

I'll stop waffling — take a look!

By the way, this kit has already been subject to discussion on this thread in the Vintage Drum forum — there are extra pics there and answers to some questions.

Meanwhile, do fire any extra questions here. There are lots more photos btw — I'll wait for requests!
