If I were you and did not have any kit it matched very well - then I would sell it. At the same time, if I were not happy with the sound, I would have the edges checked out and re-cut if needed, as these can sound great if made true - and its beauty is obvious.....so what is there not to love?

Usually MIJ snares are only worth like $50 tops...and for that kind of $$, I would just keep it and play it! I have found that MIJ drums can sound quite good when tuned up right!

Oh yeah..forgot to mention this...that snare is pretty damn cool...MIJ or not!!!

It seems to me (being a relative newb to drums) that most MIJ stuff simply does not hold value for some reason. Not that I am upset about it...I can't afford what some people say is "reasonable" for the American vintage stuff unless it's a garbage find or in total need of restoration. Once in a while something comes along in my wheel house...but not very.

I would say no more than $50 OBO for sale price...and that's cause WMP is my favorite wrap. Missing the badge may hurt the value some, but in all reality this is a players drum and as such the badge may be of no real consequence. It's a $50 or so vintage snare in WMP that looks good, and that's what would sell.

In any event, I would keep it and play the snot out of it.

. From the research I have done I guess its pretty common to have the badge missing, either people would rebadge them as a Slingerland or in general they come of fairly easy. The drum sounds great and the construction is pretty good. I will admit a Slingerland does have a better tone and is slightly constructed better, but Star did there homework for pretty good rip off. I also am never concerned with color matching snare with my kit, I feel that a snare should be able to reflect it uniqueness on the sound it creates apart from a set (Yes ,I am in favor on a matching snare drum and kit). Is the WMP color fairly rare? I normally see MIJ drums normally in a sparkle of some sort. I planned on keeping it once I found out that is was a Hoshino snare drum, I am a big fan of Tama drums and the company itself. I currently have it tuned for more of that older jazz/bigband style of sound, kinda on the dry/warm sound, as apposed to some of my other snares. I was also wondering if there are any older Star/Tama Snare drums of worth?

I just got myself a 1963 Star as well (the one Mikey mentioned in his thread) and I'm stoked to refurbish it and see what I can pull out of it!! I also don't worry about the snare finish matching the rest of my kit for the same reasons you mentioned (I have blue mist Pearls, but use a black Mapex snare when giving my vintage Acrolite a break (also bought on shopgoodwill.com). Can't wait to hear what this snare sounds like with my thundering Pearl poplar shells.

Just a few questions myself if that is OK please? What are the reinforcement rings made of? Is it a 6 or 8 lug snare? What type of wood do you think it is, Luan Mahogany as tdennis mentioned in the other thread? Thank you all for your expertise and this treasure trove of a site.

Idk if you got the snare yet but It is a 8 lug, the shell is made out of Luan Mahogany, the rings im not really sure my guess would be Luan Mahogany as well
