My fully restored & beloved 1963 Slingerland kit which I have owned from NEW. They sound even better with time. I have played just about every drum kit that has been made over the decades, ranging from Trixon, D W and Yamaha etc etc, but for me Im so glad I hung on to my amazing Radio King 1963 Slingerlands which I purchased at the tender age of 16 yrs old from a very well known dealer in North London UK. It costs me about £325.00, that was a small fortune then. I have added a set of EVANS G2 coated on the Toms & a EVANS EMAD2 clear batter on the B.D. This produces a very warm but plenty of bottom end attack, the sustain which these great heads produce is easily controlled by the internal dampers and they sing LOUD!!!!.Tuning is a breeze, Never a need to apply any Gaffer tape any where. Stick a set of mic's any where near the kit, the end result is just sheer joy for me and a very smiley & happy sound engineer. In 1964 I was on a small tour with a few big artists around at the time including " The WHO " when Keith Moon had to borrow my kit as his Premier kit failed to turn up on time. He past comment after as to how nice they were to play with a great full sound. I put it all down to the aged classic thin Maple Shells that just get better & better with time.
This kit will go to the grave with me !!!!, just hope that's not toooooo soon LOL !!!!
