1963 Slingerland No. 286

Loading...

Hey everyone, this is my first post here and certainly not my last.

I have this cool little kit.

http://www.horrornetonline.com/new_page_4.htm

A few things about it:

Blue Sparkle finish

16x16 Bass & 5 1/2x14 Snare

Cowbell mount on snare

Handle on Bass drum

Orignal Snare stand

Broken spur stay screws inside the castings.

Not orignal Bass hoop.

Bass Mount Broken.

Snare wires not orignal.

Ive only ever seen one other kit like this on the net here:

http://www.cocktaildrum.com/models/sling/sling.html

I've had this kit for a while now, and i've always wondered about it's rarity & value. Anyone know about it?

What nice little kit! I can't speak for the value of it. I've never seen one before other than the catalog picture. I would imagine there are some cocktail kit collectors out there but I would guess someone might be looking to make a floor tom out of the bass drum..just my guess. What kind of shells? I know somebvody here knows a whole lot more than I do.

I would hope no one would want to make a floor tom out of it, its just way too cool...lol.

I just enjoy playing it. I set up 1 stand, Hook a remote hihat, a crash/ride and some percussion and away I go.

The shells look like maple to me, but i'm no wood expert. There are support rings in them so they must be pretty thin.

Thanx for the reply!

Hey, that's really cool! I've never seen a Slingerland version of that setup, but one of the forum members here owns a beautiful burgundy sparkle LUDWIG version of that -called a "Gold Coast" model. Check this link:

I've seen a few of those sets sell for nice money on ebay. I'd imagine that set, as is would get at least $500.

The set looks all original except the audience side hoop. In the catalog and other examples I've seen, the standard hoop would be on that side and a wood hoop would be on the batter side. Either the wood hoop was replaced at one time, or there's another Slingerland anomaly. (Does the "regular" hoop have two small holes where the pedal would go? This was for their clip on pedal they used on the "Jet" sets.

I think a disassembly and nice cleaning would be in order...but that's me...

Nice set!

Ya, the audience hoop is not orginal. When I got the set, I had to add a generic hoop, then I realized how it worked. The wood hoop goes toward the player and the pedal clamps to it. I just need to find somewhere to get a 16" wooden hoop w/an inlay & the snare stand mount.

Your right about the cleaning too. I need to break it down and do it. What would you recommend I clean the sparkle finish with? I know I dont want to use anything that would hurt it.
