Varethane is Polyurethane. Oh well. They will still sound good, just not quite as resonant as if you had used lacquer. Polyurethane is liquid plastic.

Well that is a bummer :( Hopefully it won't take away from the sound too much... I'm almost done with the clear coats so, I will be able to set them up soon. Oh and I have an extra tom (13 inch I believe) missing its inner wood hoops, I was just wondering where I should go to find some, and how I would install them. Or would it be worth it?

It would be easier to find another tom and strip it than to try putting re-rings in this one. If you really want to try it, it is not all that easy to make them for toms. You can order them from Keller tough, I am uncertain if they would be an exact fit. If you are handy with woodwork, replacing one would be a task you could do, if not....eh. As for trying to play this one without the hoops inplace, you will likely collapse the shell.

That 13" shell looks like a 6 ply so would not have had re-rings installed

Can you take a quick shot of the edge of the 13?

My first kit was a Beltone,1967-68? Used. They were probably 5 or 6 years old when I got them. I was 15 years old. Mahogany shells and a wood snare. Quite thin if my memory serves me correctly, with reinforcing rings.Red sparkle. Drove my parents crazy with them, lol. hard to say who made them. My Pa took a few "slides" and I have one but it don't show much, and he reversed the slide so it looks like I'm left handed.
