1960s Ludwig Supraphonic 6.5x14 Keystone Badge. Rare?

Loading...

G'day. This is my first post. What a great resource!

Like most self-respecting vintage enthusiasts and professionals, I've gotten the Supra bug after purchasing a flaky 1964 Supra (5x14) that really opened my ears to its great legacy. I record a lot at home and indeed agree with the hype - it is an infinitely recordable drum: sensitive, responsive, dynamic, colourful. I am amazed at the sounds one can get from it.

I am now in the market for a 1960s Supra in the apparently rare 6.5x14 size.

I'd like to know:

- how rare these drums are

- the approximate value of 60s vs 70s in this deeper size

- If it's worth just getting a brand new 70s reprod from Ludwig. They seem to go for US$380 and save me the bidding wars!!

Thanks for having me.

1. they seem to pop up every once in a while on ebay, but i agree, they are unbelievably hard to find...

2. the 70s models vary in value, i'd say round about $400-$500. the 60s i've seen on ebay probably go for 500-600...

3. yep, worth it. you'll get the sound, you just won't have that vintage vibe to it...
