1960'S Gretsch Name Band

Loading...

Just picked this up as the latest project wrapped in Champagne Sparkle. It's in pretty good shape with little fade, wrap seams lifting, and just a few things missing (reso side Hoop inlay and Ts and Claws, and bottom tone control for 13" tom).

Now let the resto begin with removing 50 years of dust/grime. Tips would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats. Looks like a great project.

I suggest a Dawn/water bath for chrome parts and Novus 2 for the wrap. Add some patience.

I have T-rods, claws lugs if you are interested. I do not have the hoop inlay or a tone control.

Is it 3 ply or 6 ply? I saw the bolt through cymbal arm holder, which tends to be on older drums. I also saw the other style on the floor tom leg mounts. Any paper labels with serial numbers to help estimate the age?

Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

6ply. only paper label was in the floor. (pictured) I also don't know about the hole by the cymbal mount on the bass drum.(pictured). Floor seems to be a little less vibrant in color. Later add on??

I know nothing about Gretsch drums (Ludwig is my forte) so your input is welcomed.

Extra hole should be for the badge. Is it at the 12 o'clock position - on the top of the drum?

Serial number points to 1964ish as a date for the floor tom.
