1959 George Way (Re-wrap)

Loading...

Boys and girls...

For sale: 1959 George Way kit in Burgundy Sparkle (professional re-wrap by Precison Drum Co.) 13", 16", 20" w/matching 5"x14" snare. See photos.

$1800. FIRM + shipping

The drums are in excellent condition as is all original hardware. I didn't just pull the price out of my a$$. The price is based on an estimated current market value of $1800 to $2000 by Steve Maxwell Drums in New York. I went with the low end estimate so I can offer the kit as a deal to one of my VDF brothers.

This is the real deal. Some of the finest drums ever made in America from the golden age of drum building. Own a piece of drum history. PM serious buyers only please. No tire kickers and no low ballers please... the price is firm. I'm not going to give these away. I know what I have and the value is built in. A safe investment. This kit will only increase in value and rarity with passing time.

Notes on the kit:

2 badges were missing when I bought the kit. (Rack and floor tom) I replaced them with 2 Camco badges that I had as place holders until I could buy some George Way badges which I never did. The snare and bass have their original badges.

I never replaced the rail mount on the bass drum after the re-wrap but I have it and will include it in the sale. I wanted to keep the bass drum a "virgin" although the holes for the mount are still there under the wrap and can be easily opened to reinstall the rail mount.

The shells and hardware are in excellent condition and the kit looks stinking new. Wonderful sounding drums. Warm, deep and resonant.

First come first served... these won't last long. Sale is for shell pack only. No cymbals or hardware...

Thanks for looking...

John

I've never had any George Way drums. Having had Camcos though (see my former re-wrapped merlot set), I'm assuming they were made the Way drums should be made and are Way cool. Good luck with the sale John. They sure are purdie. :)

Wow! Great price for a top of the vintage line kit! You are correct John, these won't last long, in fact, I think you're a bit light on the price!

Good luck, they will sell.

I had no clue what to ask for them so I contacted Maxwell's in NY. I emailed the manager a bunch of photos so he could have all the ammo he needed to appraise them. Because they are a re-wrap and only because they are a re-wrap he came back with a fair market value of $1800 to $2000. If they had the original wrap in decent condition (which had been badly cracked and marked up, that's why they were redone) you could add another $1000 to $1500 to the asking price. They aren't ever going to make another one of these kits. The value is there. Re-wrap or not, they are a rare and valuable set of drums. I HATE letting them go, but I really need the cake right now.

Thanks all for kind words... you buggers are the best.
