1959-1964 Premier Vintage Royal Ace restoration

Loading...

This 1960-1964 Vintage Premier Royal Ace 14x5.5mm Snare Drum took me almost a year to fully restore. Its completely,100% original through-out,(apart from the top and bottom batter heads),has an unused, original set of 'Premier Double 10' snare wires fitted,(anyone who has ever tried to get hold of an original set of 'Premier Double 10' snares, should know that they are extreemly rare and very hard to come by).For its age, almost 50 years old, this snare drum not only sounds great, but looks fantastic as well. Its build quality is unsurpassed by most if not all of the high end snares on sale today.

I would be gratefull of any comments you may have.

Many thanks.

Yes, more than likely the wrap is original. Premier had unique colors for their green, blue and turquoise wraps. If it's NOT original I'd be surprised!

Nice snare!

Great job!!

Hope I can ask you a little question: I'm in the process of restoring a 1958-59(best guess) Royal-Ace 14"x4" COA snare.. I've got all parts in near perfect condition, BUT I'm missing the strainer lever..or what it's called, here marked with red

Any idea on how to get hold of that part??.. I could buy a complete vintage drum and take it from there, but thats expensive beyond reason and then I'd still have a drum without lever crying2-07

And where in **** did you find those double 10 snares Eye Ball

Henrik, give NTK in Sweden a call - they have a lot of Premier-stuff, are nice people and I ordered a brand new double ten from them for my Royal Ace not too long ago.

I love the job you did on that snare. It's beautiful. I'm restoring a 1960's Royal Ace as well. It's all done and back together. I decided not to wrap it, so I took off the wrap, sanded the maple smooth and stained it with potassium permanganate. 12 coats of Bar top laquer and a high gloss buffing procedure and it shines like crazy. Now all I'm missing is one lousy snare claw and I can finish it. Do you have any idea where I can get one of those critters? I've been all over the place with no luck. Can you please help me? Lemmeno

BTW you can get brand new Premier snare wires from a company Called Baskey Vintage. They are exact replicas of the original snare wires. See Below.
