1955 Slingerland Knotty pine floor tom...

Loading...

I have owned this orphan Slingerland 16 x 14 Knotty pine floor tom since the late 70's. It's in pretty good condition. The words "knotty Pine" are printed in pencil inside of the shell. I believe it's from the factory. Over the years, I seen only a few of the Knotty Pint kits, usually only having a 13" rack tom, with no floor tom, when you find a kit with this wrap at all. The Knotty Pine wrap was patterned after the pine paneling used in Gene Krupa's home basement. Right now, I'm testing the waters to sell this tom. I do not think this drum was ever a marching drum. I found this drum in a back room of a disco I worked in the 70's. I have never seen a floor tom with this rare wrap for sale. I know, there are no pics for you all to see at this time. I would prefer to sell this to someone who has a kit in knotty pine. I'm going to see if there's any interest in this drum. Thanks for your time and interest.

RogerF,

I have a two piece kit in Knotty Pine, dated 1958 I believe. A 12x22 single tension bass w/original calf heads and a 5.5x14 8 lug snare, with single flanged hoops and clips iirc. The wrap (if you can call it that!) condition is not good, but the shells and chrome are great. Picked it up just because. Perhaps the paths of these drums should converge?

To the best of my knowledge, Knotty Pine was only available in 1955.

Here is a thread I started on DFO this year about my pair; they are indeed both dated March xx 1959. More important for you however - there is a reply from a gentleman here in MD saying that he is looking for a KP FT!!
