1954 Premier toms English or metric Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi my first question about Premier drums . would 1954 toms take English inch size heads or metric? I know Premiers have low collector values but what should I offer for a rack tom and floor tom only? Only saw 1 picture - extra holes in floor tom from leg mounts being moved. rack also has two extra holes near mount. very yellowed WMP

I have Olympic from this era, it was old English imperial inch sized drum...imperial inch is slightly smaller than standard

Exactly... which is why an "international" sized 12" head won't fit under a pre-international 12" Premier hoop. Some continue to mistakenly refer to "imperial inch" sizes as "metric".

Probably not worth much but the heads from Remo in Pre-International sizes are available and not that expensive. I just bought some over here in New Zealand and they were about $10 more than the standard sizes.

And of course the Premier stuff is well made and sounds great.

So based on my above math that would make his international sized heads freeHmmmm

Remember, I'm in NZ so a standard size 12" Ambassador is about US$24 and the pre int head was US$34. Worth it for such great drums. I'm totally sold on old Prems in case you couldn't tell. I am about to finish a very satisfying resto on a late 50s kit and I just bought a pile of old scrap that I noticed had a Prem BD, tom and rack tom amongst the MIC stuff. Couldn't help myself.
