i think the reputation of clam shell strainers is well on record. i've got two or three and all work well for me. i think people prefer the 3-point variety because they're simpler and work better. the clam shell design is a little rube goldbergian. and most have lost the top part of the lever mechanism too, leaving either a slapped on replacement or nothing at all.
Sorry if I missed it, but what are the dimensions of the drum?

it's 14 x 7. i think i may have posted or told someone by pm that it was 6.5, and that was in error. i just measured, and it's 7 inches deep.
