You have to be careful tuning that snare. The lugsare thin and well crack if tightened to tight. All of my Tromsa drums have single ply heads for that reason. 2ply head+ over tighten= cracked lug.

That is one TROMSA defect, overcome by strengthening the lugs at the tip with a little dollop of silver solder on the inside. There seems to be production differences too. On 8 lug drums it isn't such an issue and even on the 6 lug drums it varies from drum to drum. Since those lugs you are referring to are made from stamped brass, it is possible that they received some crappy, brittle brass at some time or tried a different supplier. The lugs on this drum are made completely differently, though. They are thick cast aluminum with a receiver nut fitted into a slot. It was a common design in the early 50's in Germany and seems to be quite durable. I think Trixon had some problems(early 50's) and later Sonor with cast steel lugs------those are the ones I know about, that crack.

With Sonor, it was the plastic lugs that cracked or exploded !!

Tromsa and Deri tried the plastic lugs too and I am not sure they were too successfull. I have seen some of the Sonor cast teardrop lugs with the tops tearing away too. With Trixon it was the very early 50's cast aluminum lugs. The aluminum seems to just fall apart , the lug expands as the nut draws ****her up and great fissures open up. It's not a pretty sight.

one too many h's on my part but apparently your not allowed to describe going up in airplanes, climbing mountains or on to your roof, fly kites, climb ladders, towers or ski hills; smoke up,dream out loud, hang glide ,become an astronaut, talk about the Byrd's first big hit or Bob Dylan's first big album or mention the big park in Toronto, on this forum. It will get ********.
