1950s WFL Duco Kit Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

Hi guys,

I've been working on putting this kit together now for over 2 years. The BD and ST I found on ebay and were pretty rough. It looked like they had been sitting in a barn or garage for 30-40 years and were covered with dirt and bird ****. The snare I found on line from a private seller and was in pretty good shape and cleaned up great. I feel lucky to have also found the 12X15 marcher on ebay and it also cleaned up pretty nicely. It's not a perfect match but I think it fits in nicely and that I would be hard pressed to do better.

There's no dates on any of the shells but I'm assuming they are all around mid 50s. I'm using 3 WFL snare stands for the snare and 2 toms. That means no extra holes in the shells and keeps everything WFL. I did modify (shorten) the floor tom stand that seemed to work out nicely.

What do you guys think ??

Doug

AWESOME!!

I have NO duco kits because every duco drum I find is too chipped, flaked, etc.

I am jealous! Superb set!

I love to hear about fellow members who have a passion to take the time to piece together a nice vintage kit when one is not available as a whole. Very nice kit, the match is very close and looks great ! I agree with Mark, extremely tough to find a complete kit that is not chipped or flaked. I have a few snares in my collection but they were tough to find without a chip or two. I see you have a canister throne, WFL also?

Enjoy the kit !

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Some of my favorites from the kits in the collection
58 WFL New Yorker Blue Sparkle
67 Ludwig Hollywood Red Psychedelic
69 Ludwig Standard Red Ruby Strata
70's Ludwig BOP "Ringo" Kit

A few of my favorite snares
20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
63 Walberg & Auge Sea Blue Agave Green Pearl
66 Leedy Shelly Manne Blue Agate Pearl

Great looking set. I have a Black and gold set and love the look of the duco's also.

That bass drum badge looks a little strange to me though, where the spurs put on the wrong panels?
