1950's Leedy & Ludwig New Era snare

Newest clean and polish - 1950's Leedy & Ludwig New Era snare.

This one had been sitting and needed some attention. Over time the nickel hardware lost its luster and the wrap got a bit dingy. Very expected from a drum that is ~65 years old.

The hardware is in pretty good condition with the expected scratches. The wrap had started to take on the "Aqua Blue" look but a bit of elbow grease and it came out pretty nice. Was even able to reinstall the original L&L Snare wires. Here are some before and after shots.

Now it's read for the next 65 years! Nice job.

So what's the story on the odd spring on the strainer?

Not sure why it was there. I took the throw completely apart and cleaned it, lubricated it etc. It works and holds without issue without the spring. I have a feeling it was to add additional tension.
