1950's Gretsch in Midnight Pearl

Loading...

These aren't the best pics, but I do love these drums. The snare in the second pic isn't original -- it's a 12" custom job I've been playing for the last five years or so. And the bass head is a new Ambassador with the Gretsch logo added after the fact. (As if I'd cut a mic hole in an original 50s Gretsch head!) :)

The ride is a K Istanbul that came with the kit. I picked up the set, cymbals included, for $565 Canadian when I was a wide-eyed 16-year-old with a vintage drum obsession. (Now I'm a wide-eyed 31-year-old whose obsession just keeps growing.)

Those are the same sizes, color and vintage as my set I bought in Halifax in 1972 (paid $125 Canadian - all paper route money). Mine aren't in as good shape, the chrome is pitted but are still great drums.
